Tybee Island is Georgia's tourist destination with something fun for every vacationer. Just 18 miles from Savannah, Tybee Island is rich in history and natural beauty, and offers a diverse cuisine and excellent vacation accommodations. The island an Atlantic Ocean barrier island located on Georgia's north coast, about 20 minutes from historic Savannah, Georgia.

The South Atlantic Coast's first lighthouse

In 1736, Tybee became the site of the first lighthouse built along the South Atlantic coast, and there is a very informative museum the whole family will enjoy. If you'll be on the island for some extra time, consider volunteering at the lighthouse museum, and get a feel for Tybee's rich history while making friends with the locals and vacationers. Tybee Island Pirate Fest

For hundreds of years this beautiful island was home to various groups of pirates who used the island to hide from those who pursued them. Pirates used the island's inland waterways for fresh water source, and later, joined the British in fighting the Spanish and their Native American allies. Today, while most of the pirates are long gone, they have given way to another great reason to have a party... Tybee Island Pirate Fest, held every year in October. Tybee Island Pirate Fest began in 2005 with a few locals searching for an event to highlight the unique personality of the island, and of course, to have a BIG pirate party.
